Amazon has started using Rivian’s electric vans to deliver packages to the United States of America. Rivian is a relatively young automotive brand: it was born as a Tesla competitor and produces exclusively electric cars.

Currently in the catalog it has only two vehicles: the Rivian R1S and R1T. The company also designed a commercial vehicle, an electric van dedicated to companies. Amazon, which owns about 18% of its shares, is Rivian ‘s first and largest customer .

Amazon has booked 100,000 Rivian electric vans. In the future, the vans will not be used exclusively in the United States, but will also be exported to the rest of the world. The zero-emission vehicle fleet is one of the pillars of Amazon’s strategy to achieve so-called carbon neutrality by 2040.

Amazon will for the time being use Rivian vans in a handful of American metropolises: Baltimore, Chicago, Dallas, Kansas City, Nashville, Tennessee, Phoenix, San Diego, Seattle and St. Louis.

Amazon has announced that by the end of 2022 it will bring thousands of electric vans to the road, with the aim of covering at least 100 different cities. In 2030, the fleet of fully electric vans will reach 100,000 units.
