Ceasefire was reached after 3 days in Gaza: 43 Palestinians died, 15 of whom were children

On the third day of Israel’s operation in Gaza against the Islamic Jihad organization on Friday, Egypt convinced the parties to compromise. While Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid said, “The operation reached its goal,” the Islamic Jihad wing announced that the conflicts were ended in exchange for the release of the two Palestinian names arrested by Israel. 43 Palestinians, including 15 children, lost their lives in the attacks. More than 300 people were also injured.

The Bloody Clashes That Started Between Israel and Palestine in the Gaza Strip ended with a ceasefire on the third day yesterday at 23.30 local time. The clashes, which were recorded as the most serious tension since the 11-day bombardment in May 2021, in which 324 Palestinians and 14 Israeli civilians lost their lives, ended with the intervention of Egypt.

Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid stated that “the operation has achieved its objectives and the army is preparing to end the attacks”. The Islamic Jihad organization, on the other hand, announced that they decided to stop firing rockets at Israeli targets after Egypt promised to release Bassam al-Saadi and Palestinian prisoner Khalil al-Awavdeh, one of the top figures of the organization. On the other hand, mutual attacks continued until the time of the ceasefire.

THIS IS HOW THE CRISIS STARTED

Bassam al-Saadi, one of the leaders of the Islamic Jihad organization, was arrested in the West Bank on 1 August. After the organization announced that it would respond to the arrest, Israel announced that it had launched an operation targeting “terrorist elements” in Gaza on 4 August.

Meanwhile, the Israeli army announced the previous day that all senior leaders of the military wing of Islamic Jihad in Gaza had been neutralized. It was reported that among the people killed, Taysir al-Jabari and Halid Mansur, who were among the top executives of the organization, were also killed. The Jerusalem Brigades, the military wing of the Islamic Jihad organization, also confirmed that Khaled Mansur was dead. Israeli Prime Minister Lapid described Mansur’s killing as an “extraordinary achievement”.

43 PALESTINIAN DIES

In the operation called ‘Dawn’, 43 Palestinian civilians lost their lives in 3 days. While 15 children were among the dead, at least 311 people were injured. While many buildings that were the target of the attacks were destroyed, 3 people on the Israeli side were injured as a result of the shrapnel hitting them.

ELECTRICITY IS NOT SUPPLIED

On the other hand, after Israel closed the entrances and exits to Gaza, electricity generation in the region where fuel could not be supplied came to a halt. Gaza’s Minister of Health announced yesterday that there are only two days of fuel left to maintain vital services in hospitals. It was also reported that there was a shortage of medicine in the region. Despite The Ceasefire declaration, daily life in Gaza has not yet normalized.

ROCKET TO JERUSALEM

About 900 rockets were fired from Gaza to Israel in response to the Israeli operation targeting the Islamic Jihad organization launched in Gaza on Friday. However, most of these rockets were destroyed in the air by Israel’s ‘Iron Dome’ defense system. Meanwhile, the Jerusalem Brigades, the military wing of Islamic Jihad, targeted Jerusalem for the first time yesterday.
