EU reveals ‘final text’ for nuclear deal with Iran

In the negotiations for the return to the nuclear agreement between Iran, the USA and the European Union (EU) delegations in Vienna, the capital of Austria, the EU High Representative for Foreign Relations and Security Policy Josep Borrell revealed the “final text” for reconciliation between the parties.

The Negotiations Between Iran , the USA and the EU to return to the Iran nuclear agreement started again on 4 August in Vienna, the capital of Austria, months later. After four days of indirect talks that ended in Vienna, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell stated that he had put forward the “final text” to revive the 2015 Iran nuclear deal. “What can be negotiated has been negotiated and is now in a final text. But behind every technical issue and every paragraph there is a political decision that must be taken in the capitals,” Borrell said. “If these answers are positive, we can sign this agreement.”

Prior to Borell’s statement, a senior EU official told reporters that no further changes could be made to the text, which has been negotiated for 15 months, and that they expect a final decision from the parties within a few weeks at the most. The official said, “This is a package of suggestions. You cannot join page 20 and join page 50. You have to say yes or no.”

US READY TO

DEAL A US State Department spokesperson said the US is ready to quickly reach an agreement to revive the agreement, officially called the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), based on EU proposals.

IRAN REQUESTED THAT THE AGREEMENT NOT BE CONSIDERED AS A REVISION

Iranian officials, on the other hand, stated that they would convey their “additional views and evaluations” to the European Union , which coordinates the negotiations, after the consultations in Iran, and stated that they did not see the EU’s proposals as final. The Iranian side also demanded that the US and other Western powers see the agreement outside of revival.

NEGOTIATIONS TO RETURN TO THE NUCLEAR AGREEMENT

The 5 permanent members of the United Nations ( UN ) Security Council (England, USA, China, France, Russia) and GermanyAn agreement was signed between Iran and Iran, called the “Comprehensive Joint Plan of Action” and covering the inspection of Iran’s nuclear activities in 2015. Former US President Donald Trump unilaterally withdrew from the agreement in 2018, and the Iranian administration returned its nuclear activities to pre-agreement. Negotiations were started between Iran, France, Russia, China, England and Germany in April 2021 in Vienna, the capital of Austria, for the return to the nuclear agreement. Negotiations were underway for the US to return to the agreement, but the negotiations were stopped for different reasons last March.
