New Zealand: Will tax the flatulence of cows and sheep

New Zealand ranchers and farmers are on a war footing over a government plan to tax greenhouse gas emissions from livestock , such as methane emitted by flatulence and belching from cows and sheep or nitrous oxide in urine . cattle.

Methane is less abundant and has a shorter lifespan in the atmosphere than carbon dioxide , but it contributes more to global warming. Scientists believe this is responsible for around 30% of the phenomenon while only being part of the greenhouse gases.

Thousands of farmers have protested on the streets of the country to raise awareness of the population and the government on the risks of this bill as it threatens the existence of rural communities.

The rural and agricultural sector of this country has been hit hard by floods, severe storms and intense drought this year alone . And the situation is getting worse. Farmers can adapt and quickly reduce their emissions or suffer more, like everyone else.
