Municipalities take new measures against the crisis

A study conducted in Germany revealed that the municipalities in the country had to take serious economic measures due to the increasing inflation and high costs due to the energy crisis. It was stated that 11 percent of the municipalities plan to cut back on public transportation services, while 7 percent plan to close operas and theaters due to increasing costs.

The survey conducted in the municipalities of 301 cities with a population of at least 20 thousand revealed that the municipalities caused serious cuts in especially street lighting and swimming pool heating, as well as care services for the young and old.

It was stated that 11 percent of the municipalities plan to cut back on public transportation services, while 7 percent plan to close operas and theaters due to increasing costs.

In the research, it was stated that 54 percent of the municipalities in Germany cut their services in 2022 or plan to go in 2023.

It was noted that two-thirds of the municipalities in North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW), which is the most populous state of Germany, take austerity measures, while this rate is one-third in the state of Thuringia.
