Daje de Alberi: the initiative to reforest Rome
Here is the story of Lorenzo Cioce who with his Daje de Alberi makes Rome become greener. His invitation to create a real community to protect nature.
Lorenzo Cioce surprises positively with his Daje de Alberi to reforest Rome . The Municipality should do it and instead he invites all European countries to join in a real community and to proceed. Since the 1960s, 60% of the forests have been wasted. In Italy, as in other countries, there are many projects to plant new trees . First Milan with the BagnaMI initiative, then if we move to Rome we will find from 2021 the initiative of Lorenzo Cioce with his Daje de Alberi. One way to raise awareness among citizens to make Rome an ever greener capital. A project of reforestation and urban rebirth with the union of citizens and institutions.
Everything was born in an amateur way in 2019 to plant trees under the house, because the square where I lived in the Nomentano district of Rome was bare. Public and private must collaborate and must learn to do so more and more. This thing abroad is normal. There are realities that have always cooperated with municipalities like us. The aim is to increase the heritage and defend it. Our action is not critical, but we try to be proactive and act to create something that then remains with the city. We start from the fact that once you decide to adopt a tree, you carry on with the commitment and don’t leave the project abandoned to itself. I really care about the sense of community we are creating among citizens.

In 2021 the experiment is successful and the Daje de Alberi association is founded with a crowdfunding. For reforestation operations you need the permission of the Municipality, otherwise it is a crime. Then the first funds arrived and from February 2022 Alberi was born in Rome. The aim of the project is to plant trees in needy spaces or to create new flower beds . As many as 150 new trees are giving new life to Rome.
People must not take the place of institutions. There is a great need for investment in gardens and projects of this type. The right tree goes to the right place respecting the environment and biodiversity , but also respecting allergy sufferers.
