WWDC 2022, no viewer for augmented reality: “Apple fears that competitors will copy its ideas”

There are only a few days left until WWDC 2022 , the Apple event dedicated to developers. The conference is normally devoted almost entirely to Apple’s operating systems, however in the past the company had used that stage to show some new products as well.

So many were hoping that Apple decides to use this year’s WWDC to show a preview of its eagerly awaited headset for augmented and virtual reality and realityOS , the operating system at the center of the future ecosystem of augmented reality products.

Misplaced hopes, according to more and more insiders. After Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo now also denies that we will see the augmented reality headset on June 6. The presentation is set for much later in time.

According to Kuo, Apple does not intend to play with their cards face up. We know that the viewer will enter the market only in 2023. In the past there was talk of the possibility that Apple could present the product during the summer of 2022, and then launch it on the market only several months later. A relatively long wait, which Apple would use to push the marketing machine and advertise the headset.

But the thesis does not convince Kuo. According to the analyst, Apple does not want to show the specifications of the AR / VR headset to the competition too far in advance of the market launch. “Apple’s competitors are looking forward to learning more,” he wrote. “If Apple introduced the headset now, its competitors would copy its ideas of him.”
