The suit of American astronauts who will return to the moon will look like this

NASA has revealed the new space suit that will be worn by astronauts who will take part in the Artemis mission , which, in the long term, aims to establish a permanent presence on the Moon.

It’s made by Axiom , which won a multi-million dollar contract with NASA in September of last year. For the moment, the company has limited itself to showing a prototype of the suit and illustrating its functions, the actual suits will be delivered to NASA later in the course of time.

It was created by combining the know-how born from NASA’s previous experiences with the Apollo program with some features of the most modern space suits, such as those worn by American astronauts serving on the ISS.

Axiom’s space suit for the Moon features a custom design designed to facilitate movement for astronauts. The helmet has top mounted lights and a high definition video camera on the left side.

Like the suits currently used by the crew of the International Space Station (ISS), Axiom’s space suit, officially called the Axiom Extravehicular Mobility Unit (AxEMU), will use a back-mounted backpack for life support systems such as oxygen and thermal control. The suit also features major improvements over the Apollo program suits in terms of mobility characteristics, allowing the crew to fully bend their knees so they can pick up equipment or other items from the lunar surface.
