Iran begins enriching uranium at Fordo

Iran, in response to the decision taken by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) under the leadership of the USA, England, France and Germany, started to enrich uranium with 60 percent purity at its nuclear facility in Fordo.

In a decision taken by the International Atomic Energy Agency’s Board of Directors on November 17, Iran was accused of not cooperating adequately and called on Iran to “provide immediately an acceptable technical explanation for the presence of uranium traces in 3 undeclared locations”.

According to Iranian state television, Iran started to enrich uranium at high levels in response to the unfavorable decision taken by the IAEA Executive Board on the grounds that it “does not cooperate adequately with the IAEA”, while a new centrifuge chain will be created at the facilities in Natanz and Fordo, and the IR1 centrifuges in Fordo will be able to enrich uranium faster. It was informed that it will be replaced with the new generation IR6 centrifuges. The nuclear deal allowed Iran to enrich uranium to 3.67 percent.
